Went last night to check out my girlio's dancing. It's a nice little place. There's talk about turning the next show (this coming Sunday) into an all out hafla. Like crazy hafla, if enough people show. Jamilah tells me their going to run a special (to get peopel in there) that if you have a group of 8 people, you get a free bottle of champagne. So, they'll do their show, then we got to take over the place. It's Sunday night which is hard for us 9-5 folk, but...it may be worth it. Pester Jamilah Maha and Massive Tassel for details and such.
Oh...and the guy running it wants people to make reservations...not sure why.
AND...he wanted to know if we'd want to do it again around the third week on January...Sunday night but if we can fill the place it might be good itme.
Interest?

Re: Sunday at Tonic
Tue, December 12, 2006 - 6:47 AMReservations...probably just sort of an RSVP.
I would imagine the owner wants to make sure he'll have enough staff in case it gets really packed full.
Grrr. It's the night of our company party. That's TWO cool things I have to miss in December due to the holidaze.

Re: Sunday at Tonic
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 11:04 AMNot sure really...it's not my thing. I'm dressing up...somewhere inbetween costume and practice gear.
I'm feeling sassy. -

Re: Sunday at Tonic
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 11:26 AMThat was my plan as well. I went there several weeks ago in normal clothing but I'd rather do a mix of street and costume. Hmmm, now the question comes, bare belly or covered?
Also should we take a poll on who's coming so maybe we can group people to get the specials?

Tonight at Tonic
Sun, December 17, 2006 - 1:32 PMJust to clear up any confusion about what to wear to Tonic tonight...
Where I'm from, a hafla is a open dance party where only the featured performers wear their costumes. The patrons wear their club clothes and perhaps a coin belt, but certainly do not come in costume.
There are different definitions of haflas, but this has been my experience with this type of open dance party. Also, it was stated by other prominent performers in the dance community to be conscious to preserve the integrity of what we do so not to provide free entertainment for establishments to take advantage. Coming in costume would do just that.
These are my personal views, not a reflection on any of my troupe mates.
So come, drink, and dance with friends after our sets.
Certainly, we are looking forward to seeing you tonight. -

Sun, December 17, 2006 - 4:51 PMGot it. I've just never been to a hafla with featured performers. Every hafla I've been to is just a party.
