Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 11:13 AMOh, yes. For people on every level of dance. It's a party. Just come and have fun. I'll have to be looking at a day now. How will Saturday, December 16 work for everyone? -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 11:23 AMThat is a good date for us. Is this a grown up party or is there an away place to stow little ones?

Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 11:27 AMI have a six-year-old, who would likely be in the midst of the action. Kiddos are also welcome to play in my daughter's room. Can't promise it will be free of little objects for toddlers who are still exploring the world with their mouths, but if we know enough in advance, we can try to toddler proof. At any rate, children are welcome. We had one little girl who came last year and danced the night away, then entered her school talent show and performed a wonderful Middle Eastern dance. -

Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 12:01 PMAwsome! My little girl is just seven. She has a mean little shimmie that she won't do in public, but maybe with a friend...

Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 12:48 PMCurrently that date is not booked.
If nothing else creeps into our lives, Azizah and I will plan to be there.
No kids to worry about, but we do both have a slight nicotine addiction. Hope your outside is pleasant for short visits.
Need some drummers to go with the dancers....and maybe some other ME instruments to go with the drummers. -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 1:04 PMSmokers are A-OK. I'm not spastic about that. We have a lovely patio off the dance studio that is perfect for smoking.
Drummers would be good. I'm also thinking it would be fun to give folks (especially beginners) a chance to perform for an audience, so we'll have recorded music as well.
But drummers and musicians -- YES! -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 1:41 PMI'm sure there are many of us that have lots of music....maybe if we each brought one or two tracks or our favorite CD's we could all get some great ideas!
Of course if you've got that "JustRighttrackthatyoudon'twantanyoneelsetohearuntilallthechoreographyisfinishedandi'veperformeditsoitismineminemine" we surely won't pressure you to bring it and play it.

Re: Holiday Hafla -- Saturday, December 16
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 2:57 PMIf we can drag Majnun along, we'll have the basics. Likely we can scare up some maqam for flute or clarinet or something to have live melodies, too.
Don't know if Elspet will want to come...I hope she's started dancing by then. -

Mon, September 4, 2006 - 7:49 PMHey, that sounds great! I'll put it on my calendar, too! Trying to talk my DH into taking Raquy's workshop in St Louis with me in November (details still to be worked out!) so maybe there'll be two more drummers and a dancer and my kidlets, too!
Blessings! -

Re: Holiday Hafla
Sun, October 22, 2006 - 4:34 PMThat sounds great Inanna. Your house rocks for Haflas. I had such a great time and Dec is when things start to slow down for me. I'll need directions again but you can wait to send them out when it's closer to the date or I'm liable to lose them. You looked great Sat at Sihams. Meant to tell you then but got sidetracked with all the dancing.

Re: Holiday Hafla
Thu, December 14, 2006 - 8:38 AMJust a reminder that we'll be hosting a holiday hafla at Salaam Dance Studio Saturday evening, Dec. 16, from 6:30 to ?
The studio is located at 303 NE 58th St.; Gladstone, MO 64118. Our phone is (816) 455-6655. Off-street parking in front and in back of the building.
Light refreshments.
One thing I thought would be fun ... got the idea when I was in San Francisco last weekend ... There was a group sponsoring a "Dance the Nutcracker" event with a live orchestra ... they passed out tutus and wands and everyone got to dance ... looked like loads of fun ... Our music will be taped ... We'll pass out veils rather than tutus and wands ... and anyone who wants to will get to dance the "Coffee" dance (aka the Arabian dance) from the Nutcracker.
See you all Saturday! -

Re: Holiday Hafla
Thu, December 14, 2006 - 11:08 AMI will SOOOOO see you there.

Re: Holiday Hafla
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 8:36 AMI'm relatively new to the KC dance scene (I've been dancing for about a year), but I'll certainly be there!! Maybe bring cookies if time permits? Can't wait to meet y'all :) -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 4:05 PMCookies would be cool, Stephanie. But no worries if they don't get baked. Bring your dancing feet.

Re: Holiday Hafla
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 11:10 AMI assume it's BYOB? Are wine/beer permitted? Is there anything I can bring? -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 4:06 PMWe'll have water and soda. Anything else you wish to imbibe, please BYOB. Wine and beer are fine. Just be safe getting home.

Re: Holiday Hafla
Sat, December 16, 2006 - 9:05 AMOooh! I had another inspiration when I looked at the weather report this morning and realized how warm it's going to be today and tonight. I'm going to move my big fire bowl over from my patio to the parking lot out back of the studio, so we can drum and dance around a fire, too, if we like. So if you plan to dance outside, wear a more ethnic-style costume or bring a warmer coverup. -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Sat, December 16, 2006 - 11:11 AMHaving never been to a hafla before...we come in costume, right? -
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Sat, December 16, 2006 - 2:52 PMSee you all in a little while! I'll be a bit late but I'm definately coming out to play as well :)
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Sat, December 16, 2006 - 3:16 PMSome people will be in costume ... some will be in street clothes ... some people will wear something that's a little bit in between.
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Sat, December 16, 2006 - 3:55 PMi have never been to one either...
but you should wear whatever is most comfortable to you :)

Re: Holiday Hafla
Sun, December 17, 2006 - 12:03 PMThat was fun!
I went in to warm my hands and found a line of people coming in when I went back out and few wandered back out to chat--and none to dance--and that was OK. I enjoyed the conversation around the fire.
It got too crowded, hot, and loud for Nene inside, and we left when she got too cold outside. We had fun and thank you for hosting!
-
-
Re: Holiday Hafla
Sun, December 17, 2006 - 2:26 PMAt least it was warm enough for a little dancing around the fire earlier in the evening. I enjoyed that.
Thank you for drumming.
And thank you both for coming. -
