June Hafla

I will be out of town for a lot of May so I was thinking of a June Hafla. Are there any dates that work better for people. We are going to try and have a hafla once a month at the store for June, July, and August. July we will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary for the store an studio so we'll want to have a big party for that.
I don't want to come off as a Hafla monger through the summer so if someone else wants to have one feel free. I love doing it in the store parking lot because it makes the cars stop and gawk. Plus the neighbors think we're great and like it when we put on a show. Both the Jerusalem Cafe and Aladdins have prime view of our parking lot and the middle eastern guys are always sneaking a peek along with their customers.

Meet Me At Midnight

So, Meira just reminded me about a wickedly wonderful idea I had too late last year to do anything about.

Wouldn't it be fun to put the word out that all the dancers (would it be too cold to drum?) meet at midnight at some central, public place for a few minutes at Midnight to dance in the New Year. By one of the fountains, perhaps? Or at Union Station?

Who'll join me?

I'd even be happy to host a New Year's hafla leading up to the -- brrr! (but fun) -- outdoor dancing event.

Talk about your Public Urban Ritual Experiences!

Hafla Next Saturday

Happy holidays, everyone!

Just wanted to remind you all about the hafla Banat el Shamal is hosting next Saturday evening at my house. If you need directions, let me know. My phone is (816) 453-7122. This is a potluck hafla. My students and I will be providing a box 'o wine and some bottled water, as well as a few light refreshments. But if there's anything else you would like to imbibe, bring it along! Just be sure to bring a designated driver, too, if need be.

To clear up some confusion: This is separate from the dancing at Midnight at the giant Christmas Tree at Zona Rosa. That will be midnight New Year's Eve. The thing was, we wanted to do both, but some of us already had New Year's plans, so we couldn't combine the hafla with the Midnight rockin' round the Xmas tree.

So join us at either both. The more, the merrier.

Oh, and I just checked the weather for dancing outdoors. It should be in the upper 20s and no snow or ice, if the forecasters are correct. So it should be fun! Be sure to wear late season Ren-Fest style garb and not skimpy cabaret costuming, or you'll freeze your @#$&*** off. Personally, I'm planning to wear my thermal undies under my ghwazee coat and huge harem pants with black boots. And I'll have my big wool Ren-Fest cloak on over it before and after dancing. Just some costuming hints for those of you who might like to join us but don't have any experience dancing outdoors in cold weather.

Oh, and if the weather stays clear (I figure turnout will be too low to do this if we have sub-zero temps or an ice storm ... snow would be fun), I plan to let the TV stations know we'll be there, just in case they'd like to send a camera crew. You never do know.

Holiday Hafla Redux

So, the ladies of Banat el Shamal were asking me, "Are we going to have a holiday hafla this year? Last year's was so much fun. We can make it a potluck and BYOB, and it will be no trouble at all."

And I'm thinking, that would be fun.

We're checking our calendars and will have a date to announce next week.

Stay tuned, hafla fan-atics! :-)

For the Month of december I will be running a drum class on Thursdays at "Once a blue moon" It will be focusing on learning new rhytms.

I want to get some new material out there so that we can have more experiance as a group.

Since it will be at the store there will be a $5.00 Site Charge but that is it. If you have requests for Rhythms let me know

Found out there is a block party in front of our store tomorrow, Sunday, so we're having a Hafla. We'll be there from noon on. I figure we can drum and dance after 5 when it starts to cool off. There will be other bands and festivities happening. So come on down and if you get hot you can cool off in the store. The location is 1603 West 39th about 4 blocks east of Stateline or KU Med Center.

We’re finally having a party!

I know, you shouldn’t wait almost a year before you have a housewarming party, but we had to do some remodeling first. We’re firing up the grill, come bring your favorite bbq-able items and a side dish to share. If we get requests for a non-meat grill we can make that happen, just ask in advance so we can make arrangements. Do remember to bring lawn chairs and if you’re all very very good I’ll break out the Lawn Darts!

Come ready to party on Saturday, July 14th at Lisette and Kaidu’s house. We expect the party to fire up around 6-ish and should go until the nice KCMO police-men shut us down. If you don’t know where that is email Lisette for directions. When you get to the house there is a church parking lot across the street from the house, party goers can park there if there is nothing on the street. We have already cleared it with the Pastor.

Did I mention it’s also Lisette’s B-day?

OT: Fringe Fest show

There's some dancing going on at the Fringe Fest that y'all might want to watch. The Etre Art show is a modern dance show--no bellydance--though it does offer up one interesting fusion tune. The underlying rhythm is Chiftatelli, and it has background keyboard and violin and bass trading lead over it. Again, it's ME flavored fusion and not strict ME music and the dancers aren't bellydancing. Still, if you want a solid chifti beat to dance to, you can find it here, if only for one song.

The rest of the show is fun, too--and I get to play some funk darbuka!

The neat thing about the Etre Art show is that it's outside the building. The paid seating is up close and personal--and the sidewalk standing room is completely free! Seven dancers, a six-piece band, and a mime--that's good eatin' any way you look at it--for free.

412A Delaware, on the north side of the building. Friday night at 11 pm, Saturday at 6:30 pm.

There are some burlesque dancers performing inside the building, too, though I don't know when they perform. I've been told that's a good show. Vesuvius and Better Than Nothing are also good shows!

This has been a public service announcement.

Operation Drunken Sailor 0.5 Edition

Friday, April 13th, 8:30pm

Harlings Upstairs
3941 Main St. #A
Kansas City, MO 64111

As we've consistently failed to put together the show "Operation Drunken Sailor", we've been gently assisted in organizing a preview - a party of sorts, for like-minded pirate obsessed individuals with nothing to do this Friday night.
Come out, share the rum, and whiskey.....or whatever else you're drinking.
Savvy?

I'd offer an incentive to come dressed like a pirate, but it's all so last minute......

Let's aim for 7:30 until whenever. Kids are welcome. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can dance outside around a fire pit. Also, as long as we can dance outside, everyone is welcome to bring hoops and fire toys (I'm sure one of us can be a safety). And maybe, hopefully, drummers...

It appears a party will be starting at my house and then migrating across the city. We don't know where we're going yet but it will start off with cocktails at my house, one lady has requested lemon drops and I think I can manage. Anyone interested in joining our little party I will stop checking messages Friday at 4. We expect to get started around 6 or 7 at my house, email if you need directions.

I was really hoping the bad weather would give us a break this evening so we could get together and dance. But -- after holding off this morning -- the sleet's starting again. One of the drummers has already sent his regrets, saying he'll be staying home warm and safe with his family. We will miss seeing all of you, but that is what I hope for you as well ... that you will be warm and safe at home.

New drum Heads

Here is some possible good news I heard on another tribe. Thier website is http://www.remo.com/

"There's very good news that I heard today. We took a workshop with Issam Houshan (it was fantastic!) and he had one of the new "skin deep" Remo doumbek heads fitted on one of his Egyptian tablas. I asked him, how he got one to fit and then he told me the good news. He has convinced Remo to start making these heads to fit Egyptian style doumbeks. This is something that we in the ME drum community have been asking for for many years, but it seems that it took one of their endorsers to have it finally sink in. These will be available in January of 2007.
The "skin deep" heads are a new head for them which is synthetic but it much more closely approximates fishskin than any of the other heads out there. It is the same head that is used on the Remo Ergo Drum Doumbek, but in sizes that are made for the existing Egyptian doumbeks. Issams was mounted on one of his Gawharet El Fan doumbeks.
This is good news, YAY!"

Went last night to check out my girlio's dancing. It's a nice little place. There's talk about turning the next show (this coming Sunday) into an all out hafla. Like crazy hafla, if enough people show. Jamilah tells me their going to run a special (to get peopel in there) that if you have a group of 8 people, you get a free bottle of champagne. So, they'll do their show, then we got to take over the place. It's Sunday night which is hard for us 9-5 folk, but...it may be worth it. Pester Jamilah Maha and Massive Tassel for details and such.
Oh...and the guy running it wants people to make reservations...not sure why.
AND...he wanted to know if we'd want to do it again around the third week on January...Sunday night but if we can fill the place it might be good itme.
Interest?

Here is a bbok I have found that is very helpful in learning drums - IT IS NOT A ME DRUMMING BOOK.
This book explains percussion, tuning buying and reading music.

"The Complete Idiots Guide to playing drums" ISBN 0-02-863940-5 From www.idiotsguides.com.

It will help you become a more complete drummer.

Just an FYI

When the owner of Embassy says we can come in any time and do a Hafla, I should still call and confirm ahead of time to make sure that it won't be Christmas, Jesus, and Kareoke when we get there.
Apologies all around.

Finally heard back from Nate. We're on. The drummers are cool with company and dancing. They're showing up around 6. I'm gonna head over there around 5 to get some food before crazy starts. We just have to be done by 9:30 'cause the DJ takes over by 10.
But depending on what he's spinning....I may stick around longer.

So, my boyfriend runs a poker night at this cafe called the Embassy on Tuesday nights...and consequently hangs out there all the time. APPARENTLY there's this group in Indian Musicians who jam almost every Friday night, and, talking to the owner, he said it'd be totally cool if a bunch of drummers and bellydancers showed up to dance and jam and hang out.
And we can used the sound system if we want.
I was thinking December 1st....after Thanksgiving, not to close to Christmas.
Anyone in?

It's located here:

A Circle of Drums

Salutations and Felicitations,

- Is it in your Heart to Drum or Dance with
Friends, old and new?
- Is it in your Spirit to Learn the Ancient Art of
Drumming or Dancing?

Then come to "A Circle of Drums".

If you have a Drum, then bring it.
If you wish to Dance, then bring your Self.
If you simply wish to Watch, Listen, and Learn, then
Come:

Welcome, one and all!
Please come and join the Circle!

- When will this be?
Beginning at 3:00pm on November 26th, which is the
Sunday following Thanksgiving.

- Where will this be?
In the upstairs meeting room at Aquarius / Vulcan's
Forge, at 3936 Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri.

- Who will be doing this?
This Gathering will be hosted by Kelsey Reid, Bill
Whipple, and Beth Whipple. For those of you who are
unfamiliar with these names, we are members of The Drum
Clan which is based at the Camp Gaea Retreat Center.
You may also know us from the Kansas City Renaissance
Festival as members of The Druid Drummers and Gypsy
Dance Troupe from performance seasons past; we are "Ivy
Cooper, the Piper / Drummer", "Willem Cooper, the
Master Cooper / Drummer", and "Chal, the Gypsy Dancer".
For our friends and Clan: Welcome! Please come and join
us!

- What will we be doing?
For this first Gathering, we will be doing "A Circle of
Drums". This is a tradition of long standing, which
began several years ago at the Kansas City Renaissance
Festival as an afternoon performance of the Druid
Drummers and Gypsy Dance Troupe. At the performance we
would pass out Drums and "Noise Toys" to the general
audience and we would teach the history of the Drum
Circle, and the basics of how to Drum and how to Dance.
In a short, 30 minute space of time an audience of
strangers and novices would become a Circle of Friends,
drumming and dancing together. We will be carrying on
this tradition, once again.

- Who should come?
ANYONE who is Curious OR who wishes to Learn the Art
and Tradition of Drumming and Dancing. ANY Drummers or
Dancers, no matter what your skill level, are welcome
to join the Circle. ANYONE who wishes to "Keep the
Flame" in the Ancient Druidic Tradition of Gathering,
Preserving, and Sharing Knowledge, is encouraged to
Come and Join the Circle.

- What should you bring?
Bring your Drum and / or your Self, and an open Heart
and Mind. Bring your Hands and Feet. If you have extra
Drums or Noise Toys that you are willing to let others
play and use, please bring those as well.

- How long will this last?
The formal Teaching Circle for Drumming and Dancing
will last at least 45 minutes. Following this we will
continue with a full In-Gathering of the Clan until at
least 5:00pm; Drumming, Dancing, Teaching and Learning
from one another. If you have drums or other equipment
to share, or if you would like to help set up, we will
begin the setup at about 2:30pm.

Ssh... Listen to your Heart. Do you hear the call of
the drums? They are calling to you. Please follow the
call and:

Gather with the Clan.

To download a flyer of this announcement in Word format
go to:

Hey word has reached about this and I wanted to pass it on:

Sunday November 26th from 3 pm - 5 pm there will be a drum circle hosted by the Druid Drummers located in the upper room of Aquarius/Vulcan's Forge. All are welcome. Bring your drums and various noise toys. Come join us and play with friends and make new ones.

Aquarius/Vulcan's Forge
3936 Broadway St
Kansas City, MO 64111

These folks are good drummers and good people. This will be a good oppertunity to learn about drumming from some great people who have no agendas

I plan on attending

Masani and I hosted 2 haflas last fall, each following a RenFest day. Would anyone "out there" be interested in another? I'm drawing a blank on how much it cost to rent the shelter at Wyandotte County Park; I can look it up in the checkbook register as to what the cost is. $30 comes to mind..... it is a convenient location for those attending RenFest; perhaps we could keep the BellyDance weekend "going" by having a hafla following? Sort of a pre-holiday, fall harvest, let's boogie kinda deal?
Men of Kansas City - Dance like you got a pair! Male Bellydance Hafla, Henna & BBQ!

Men of Kanas City - Dance like you got a pair!
Male Bellydance Hafla, Henna and BBQ.

Calling all male bellydancers in the Kansas City Metro area (and points beyond) to unite and put your best hip forward. The shindig is ON!

When: August 12, 2006
Where: 9100 England, Overland Park, KS 66212 (this is a residence)
Time: 2:00pm til the host tells everyone to go away

Why do this? Because we're men and real men do what they want to do - and we want to dance!

This is a gathering of male bellydancers in the KC Metro area to meet-n-greet other like minded gentlemen. We're out there..now let's gather and tell tales, dance dances, drink drinks, and generally have a great time revelling in the fact that "We are not alone."

While this is mainly a celebration that there are male dancers in our area, we welcome any and all who wish to show up to our little hafla.
We hope to have live drumming courtesy of Ainmere and Gibbous Moon.
We are holding this in conjunction with a gathering sponsored by Phoibe Korinthia who is holding a BodyShop/Henna party the same day/location. She's doing this as a convenience for dancers to pamper themselves and prepare for performance at the KC Ethnic Enrichment Festival the following weekend.

We'll provide the steaks, the grill and the room to strut your stuff.
You bring a dish to share and whatever you want to drink. (This is not a dry site, but the host has requested that you not give her two small girls alcohol or get them drunk from your breath)

Crash space can be made available after the hafla on-site or at my domus nearby for those that choose to imbibe. You drinkie...you no drivie!

So come and join the fun of mixing testosterone with estrogen and see just what kind of explosion we can make.

How much does something like this cost? It's absolutely free! (gratuity not included ;))

Please RSVP as soon as possible so we know how many to provide for, eh?
If you have any questions, email to martinus@byzantios.net or call 913-620-0471.

See you there!

Body Shop Pre-Festival Party

This month, I will again be hosting a combination party. I will have the foot fun , your face is forever, and make it up, plus as a special treat henna. For those that will be going to the Ethnic Festival August 18th - 20th this will be a good time to get our feet softened and our faces glowing. This will be a great opportunity for you to try our fabulous line of footcare, hand care, skin care and face care without pushy salespeople or waiting at the cosemetic counter to get questions answered. Best thing of all is that there is no obligation to buy anything, and also you can sit back and chat with old friends and even make new ones that have the same interests as you.

And for those interested in purchasing either premixed henna or henna powder, I should have some on hand.

Date will be August 12th at or around 2:00 pm, if you can't make it by 2:00 no problem the parties always last more than 3 hours.

Location depends on how many RSVP, but definitely in Overland Park, KS.

Just contact me through tribe or phoibe@byzantios.net or trudy@byzantios.net.

Starting this month I will be holding a The Body Shop at Home party. Each month will be a different theme and will rotate every quarter, so if you can’t make it, but you really want to try the featured products for that party, you can either host your own party with that particular theme, talk a friend into hosting one, or if you don’t have the room, I would be happy to open my home to your party, or wait 3 months or so and I will have another for that them.

This month, I will be hosting a combination party. I will have the foot fun , your face is forever, and make it up, plus as a special treat henna. For those that will be going to Judy's workshop this will be a good time to get our feet softened and our faces glowing. Also, for those interested in ordering henna powder, I can get that as well, along with practice poi at a discount. Also, I will have small bottles of premixed henna paste available for sale.

The date and time:

July 15th, at 2:00 pm

Open Invitation to Party! -x-post-

-X-Post -

Some of you may know already, but a chapter of the Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association (MECDA) has been formed in Wichita, and is starting to take steps to become active! There's a tribe dedicated to the Heartland Chapter and you can check it out here:
tribes.tribe.net/wichitamecda

The kick-off dance party will be "Hafla in the Heartland," held Saturday, July 29th from 6:30-9:30 PM at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Wichita,1501 Fairmount St, Wichita, KS. We will have snacks, a show, and will follow it ALL with a rousing session of open dancing to round out the evening. MECDA membership information will be on hand for those who would like to know more about the organization, and possibly join.

If you would like to dance in the show, please let me know! EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Dance slots are limited to a maximum of 10 minutes (solos or troupes) to allow everyone who wants to participate a chance to do so. Please reserve your place by JULY 15th!! (Costumes are required for show participants, but "civilian clothes" are fine for the open dancing! :-)

Admission is $5 per person, or $2 per person if you bring a favorite food to share with everyone! Children under 12 free. MECDA will supply the drinks and eating utensils.

In keeping with MECDA's commitment to abolishing domestic violence, and as a service to the local community, we use the Dance parties as a collection point for Donations. We ask party attendees to bring any clean, good used clothing that you no longer want to our dance parties. These clothes (or any new cosmetic items; lotion shampoo, conditioner, makeup, etc.) will be donated to the closest shelter for battered women in the party area.

It would be wonderful to have a fantastic turnout for this event, and we hope to see you there!

A huge belated thank you to Thoron and Cloud Walker for volunteering to drum for my novice dancers at the Northland Ethnic Festival a couple weekends ago. They were so generous with their time and energy and very patient with new dancers and a new dance director (me). The audience seemed to enjoy it very much. And we've been invited back for next year.

The photos I have are posted on our Banat el Shamal tribe site for anyone who would like to take a peek. Unfortunately, my designated photographer (my husband) had to go to the hospital ER that day, so we weren't as well documented as I'd hoped we'd be. But Robin's feeling much better now (still getting his energy back), and I'm beginning to catch up with the rest of my life.

So once again, thank you drummers! You guys rock.

Hey -

I am thinking of starting to drum Monday Tuesday and thursday 6:00 pm to 7:20 pm

The bad news is the time and location are fixed - long story short I have a lot of time to kill while Nuy is in her class.

The location is just East of City Market. Over by the Don Bosco Center There is a park that is really cool.

If you are interested just shoot me an e-mail and I can get more specific
summer fun

just to put this out there.....its still early to have much info past the basic at this point....but here goes...

this summer...JUNE or JULYish.......i have worked out most of the details with the REPLAY LOUNGE here in LAWRENCE.....to have a SUNDAY afternoon of BELLYDANCE.....for those who havent seen the place...the have a newly remodeled beer garden out back..which they utilize in summer for bluegrass afternoons...and would be equally functional for our purposes..

so some summer SUNDAY....around 3-4pm...till whenever..
interested dancers and musicians will need to contact me in advance....with possible compensation..

in addition......preliminary planning suggest an overnight haffla.. the SATURDAY before at my country home..(ok..my country trailer..but we will have everything we need to be comfortable and to let our bellydance juices start flowing for the next day.....if you are interested in performing on SUNDAY...and your talents havent been experience by me yet...you would be humbly encourage to attend this haffla....(forgive this decision..but my reputation for future event at this venue will be influenced)

so thats pretty much what i have for now.....i would LOVE any input with this endevour....i am hoping that my efforts will serve and enrich the bellydance community...

thanks....BRAYDEN

Howdy, ya'll!

Just wanted to thank everyone for attending. I had an absolute blast, and it was great to jam and dance with everyone! Woot!

On a side note, there are a couple of items left over. I have a Kuchi-type belt someone left. It is black and has silver and gold dangly bits. Whose home does this need to go to? Jarek also has someone's chop-stick hair tie thingy (had little pink butterflies on it).

Email me or Jarek for those items....

Anyone feel up to a January Hafla? I'd like to see about renting the community building on KCKCC's campus (well-lit, right next door to nice pond and walking path, and located off 75 and State Avenue in KC, KS).

What ya'll say? Any particular weekends work/don't work for everyone?

Let me know.

I'm on a mission to get my neighbors back for vacuuming at 11pm and leaving the TV on full blast 24-7. Activites start at 7.

Okay! Since October's Hafla was fan-tab-u-lous, let's start gearing up for November!

Who wants to coordinate? Where do we want it to be? Should we chance having it outside? November can be tricky...never know if it'll be hot or cold or somewhere in between.

Thoughts? Ideas? Baklava?

Yep, we drummers had fun Saturday night. It was warm and dry under the shelter. Drumming sounded great! It felt good drumming in nature again. Crissy served great Turkish Coffee. Wish more dancers had shown up!

We drummers had so much fun, the agreement was to DO IT AGAIN the last Saturday of Festival--same shelter. I'll keep trying to get in touch with Wyandotte County to offically book the shelter and get the lights on OR Thoron, can you do this? It's hard for me to call from Lawrence/work during the day. If we can't get the lights on, we'll bring lanterns and such to set up around the tables.

Massive Tassel, where are you all? Kinda surprised we didn't see you out there.

So, since I've only been to one of these myself, I'm wondering how we can make this better and more accessible and pump attendance and so on and so forth.
So, if you've been, I want to hear from you, if you haven't I'd love to hear why not?
Is it location, timing, lack of planning ahead of time, the weather, or none of the above....'cause winters coming, and if we take Layla's suggestion and rent out a place, it'd be really nice to fill the space we got.

That too...when it gets chilly, do we put this whole thing on hold, or would anyone be willing to chip in a few bucks to get a nice heated indoorsy space? Is anyone willing to go and raid a restaurant with some drums and hope for an easygoing manager who won't kick us out? Would anyone want to invade a club for a night, just to get together and dance?

So, yeah, lets hear it!

Was Stretch's invitation for this Friday? I know I'll be down there for the art, a jaunt over to Grinders would be a nice addition. I had a good time last Friday at JC Nichols though it would be fun to get more people out. A drum circle (with dancing of course) would be a really fun thing for a Friday evening...

So we're gonna try this hafla thing after all. Meet at the park at 7 pm, bring bang-y type things and jingly type thingies and lets show the tourists the *other* side of KC...

Thoron? Tony? Chrissy? I know Babbitt will be there...I'll bring the drum rhythm book in case anyone needs it and a couple of drums.

Does everyone know where the park is? I'm pretty sure the crossroads are JC Nichols parkway (Broadway I believe) and Emanuel Cleaver II. By the Plaza, slightly morbid and disturbing horse fountain statue.

...unless someone can come up with a good location FAST. The mister called me today and apparently the family was concerned it was going to be to "risque" for the children who would be present. SO....rather than pushing it, I let it drop. They still really want to have us there (I think they're very curious) and even put out an invitation for 1st Friday. I'd look for a new place myself but the Yana show is this weekend and I'm swamped.
AAARRRRGHGHGHGH!!!!!!!

Can someone do some research for me and see if there's a better way to contact Wyandotte County to book the shelter across from the Ag. Hall of Fame?

The number I've been trying to call is 913-721-9702

It could be we don't need to book the shelter. Just go commandeer it after Festival closes at 7:00.

August 26th Update

Ok, so I talked to the Grinders guys, and that evening at that time there's a 40 year old having his/her birthday part in that sculpture park. HOWEVER, they're checking with that party to see if they wouldn't mind sharing the space, as long as we didn't mind sharing the space. So when he calls back, I need to know if we're still in, or if we need to have another date handy. Or if we want the same date at an alternate location.
Does anyone have any qualms or preferences? Please post ASAP!
NEXT HAFLA - GRINDERS

Or rather, the sculpture Park behind Grinders, on 17th and Locust. Thankyou Jivette for the wonderful suggestion. I talked to Stretch and he said it was ok, he just needed notice and date approval and anyone who wants beer has to buy it through him. I was thinking the 26th, the Friday before the Tribal Indulgence II workshop. Maybe 6 or 7 pm. I wanted to check the ligting too, maybe evening would be nice, in case it's still hot then.
Yea or Nay?

Good Location

I think I found the perfect location for the next floating hafla. There's a bar called Grinders on at 417 E 18th St (about 18th and Locust) that has this amazing park behind it. I don't know all the details about it, but the Burner group met up there on Friday and after the band got done playing we had an impromptu drum circle (using trash cans, beer bottles and wooden seats) while Agni Tara spun fire. The location would be really good (centrally located in kansas city) and there's food, drinks, etc available, besides some pretty cool sculptures.

Just a thought anyway.

Last friday while trying to stop a purse snatcher he was fataly injured and passed away last night after being in the hospital since last friday. He leaves behind a wife who is due in August.

People are starting to put together a charity concert for his wife. Tony, some members of Kundalini and I have offered to perform.

At this time I am looking to compile a list of others wishing to volunteer to perform. I do not know the date so I am not looking for commitments just interest. When I get a date I will contact those who expressed interest.

hello. i was told to check out this tribe. i arrived from san francisco 2 days ago and am staying with a friend (who works a lot) near kansas city, and i'm trying to figure out what the hell i'm going to do with myself for 6 weeks besides read every book in the library. i've gotten some good ideas in response to postings on other tribes, so i thought i'd see if anyone here has any recommendations, or even time to come rescue me and show me around. :) thanks.

Let’s get the party started with a short performance. There are 8 spots open to sign up for. Please keep songs to around 4 min. This is a great opportunity to get some preformance practice in an encouraging environment. Open dance afterwards! Call Kim at 816-813-9001 or email at nyeahra@yahoo.com

DRUMMERS WELCOME!!!! All levels.

Well, despite the cool temperatures, four of us had a great time at Loose Park Saturday evening. If you were looking for us, we were at the SW corner of Loose (the lawn and trees end, not the playground, Rose Garden, pavilion, pond end) from 6:00 p.m. 'til about 7:30 up along a sunny hillside drumming away. Like several people in the park, two cutie Arabic youth heard us drumming and came by. They drummed for us for a good hour I'd say.

Hi Michelle! This is a teriific idea. I'm glad you started this Tribe. I was reading the previous posts/messages & know that the haflas always go over well & everyone has a great time. The 14th of May should be excellent weather for in the park dancing!
I'd love to come out, but our dance grouptroupe has a show that night in Lawrence. Maybe we could set up for another one in June or July? What do you think, one a month somewhere?

BTW it was great to see you at the workshop with Sharon & at American Bellydancer movie. It's so cool how your group/troupe is growing & coming together. I wish the best for you guys - drama-less dancing ;-) (lol)
Are you coming to Cirque on Saturday? Dancing?

Luv ya's

Out of curiosity....are there any days of the week or times that are better for anyone? Or can people generally make room in heir schedules given adequate notice?
We at Massive Tassel, had been thinking about Loose (sp?) Park, down off Wornell, as a good initial spot. But I haven't been there in a while and was going to check it out first. Suggestions? Demands? Better ideas?

And I apologize if any messages I sent out seems a bit crazy. I'm a bit sleep deprived. Crazy comes with the territory.
